Is Alcohol Getting in Your Way?

Is alcohol getting in the way of living your best life?

It sure as hell got in the way of my best life and prevented me from achieving my dreams. It prevented me from personal growth. I distinctly remember sitting on my patio in 1998, drinking Chardonnay, smoking cigarettes and reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, trying to figure out the meaning of life. I was confused why I was not living my best life.

Who knew?

I didn’t realize what was creating the barrier, the disconnect, was alcohol. It’s hard to achieve your dreams, live to your full potential, when you have a numbing substance in your system.

Are you avoiding your emotions?

Alcohol affects our emotions. Many of us finish up our workday, pour a glass of wine or a drink, and melt into the sofa. We marinate our feelings in alcohol, so we don’t have to feel the negative feelings or be present with our families. If you have children that are depending on you or a spouse or parents that depend on you, not being present is a big deal. I’m not talking about being neglectful

 Good and bad…

Unfortunately, this marinade also prevents us from feeling the good stuff, too. While you may think that you’re more fun to be around and you need a good buzz to enjoy your life, I invite you to explore that thought. It may not be true. Are you happier when you drink? Are the people around you happier? Do you want to squander those precious, sweet feelings that make life so exquisite?

Information and Decisions…

Alcohol also affects the way we process information and how we make decisions. It affects our judgments and our inhibitions. I used to drink to numb out the negative feelings I had like anger, dissatisfaction, and worthlessness. And I certainly drank to celebrate or to feel happier or have more fun.

Did I make poor decisions? Absolutely. Less inhibitions? Oh yeah, absolutely.

The Physical Effects

If you look at the physical aspects of drinking, you’ll find that the first sip of alcohol you take affects your body. It doesn’t matter if it’s beer, wine, hard liquor, that first sip affects your body. If you only drink occasionally, it’s not going to have a huge effect. However,

It takes courage…

if you’re drinking heavily, the cumulative effect on your body is incredible. If you are thinking about cutting back or quitting drinking altogether, it takes courage to eliminate something from your life that is no longer serving you. This is not something to feel shame around. The stigma of alcohol abuse and alcoholism needs to be shattered once and for all.

My name is Nancy McKay. I’ve been sober since March 14, 2009 and I’ve been where you are. My clients come to me worried about their drinking. They have thoughtfully put their trust in me and my proven strategies to guide them in finding their truth around alcohol and the hold it has on their life. The result is clarity, peace and transformation whether they decide to quit drinking ~ or not.

I found my courage and strength and I guide my clients to discover theirs, too.

Interested to find out if coaching is right for you?

If you’re looking for a coach that will inspire, motivate and empower you AND that knows how you feel – we should talk. Helping people make a shift in their thinking and in their lives thrills me to pieces and drives everything I do.

Here’s what one of my client’s had to say:

“After years of therapy, six weeks of coaching with Nancy has been awakening and amazing! Not only has she helped me to recognize how I use alcohol and how to find the courage to quit drinking, she has done it without judgement.

I have learned to step back vs stepping up, be curious, and developed a body compass, to use as tools for my new life.

I think everyone should have a life coach because it’s more than getting sober and it’s all the other stuff that comes after.

Nancy is terrific and I highly recommend her!”

Trust. Truth. Transformation
