Do You Want to Feel Better?

“Never, never, never give up.”

– Winston Churchill

I wanted to feel better, do better, show up fully in my life…

Long before I got sober, I knew that I was drinking too much. I vividly remember sitting on the patio one afternoon drinking a glass of chardonnay, seeking the meaning of life, and reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

I started feeling worse and worried…

A few years later, I bought another book, Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp. I was curious about recovery, but just the first few pages hit so close to home, that even the thought of reading the book meant I would have to commit to sobriety. And, I just wasn’t ready.

Memories…

For years, I would cringe thinking of all the time I wasted, getting wasted. Then I would lay in bed remembering about how I put a loaded gun to my head in 2009. My stomach would get tied up with knots thinking of how I almost ruined everything, but how it also scared me enough to give up alcohol.

Mindset is everything…

I have mentioned mindset in the past and if you’ve seen any of my videos on Facebook or YouTube, or followed this blog, you’ll know how much I believe in, and am passionate about, the power of mindset. Now I’m going to actually show you my favorite coaching and life tool – The Model which was created by Brooke Castillo founder of The Life Coach School.

THE MODEL

Unintentional Model – When your thoughts are in control of you

C:        Write one CIRCUMSTANCE or FACT

T:         Write ONE THOUGHT you have about the circumstance

F:         When you think that thought, what is ONE FEELING it creates for you?

A:        When you feel that way, what do you do or not do (Actions)?

R:        Looking at you actions/non-actions, what RESULTS do you get?

Intentional Model – When you are in control of your thoughts

C:        Write the same CIRCUMSTANCE or FACT

T:         Write ONE thought you WANT to think about the circumstance

F:         When you think that thought, what is ONE FEELING it creates for you?

A:        When you feel that way, what do you do or not do (Actions)?

R:        Looking at you actions/non-actions, what RESULTS do you get?

Chances are you haven’t seen anything like this before, so it may not make sense to you. As you can see, this isn’t just “positive thinking” or rainbows and unicorns. This is using your thoughts to create the results you want.
