“Nobody who ever accomplished anything big or newsworthy did it from their comfort zone” ~ Jen Sincero

Last week I completed the horseback riding lessons that are a requirement of my Equus Coach® training through the Koelle Institute for Equus Coaching®. What an incredible experience this has been. I was out of my comfort zone the whole time and I absolutely LOVED it! Not only did I learn how to ride, but I also learned how to tack up (putting on the saddle and bridle), all which will take much more practice to become proficient.

The horse was a beautiful Chestnut gelding named Teddy. He was so sweet and so patient with me. I was lucky to ride him for all my lessons because he was a favorite among all the little girls that were in riding camp. It pays to get to the stable early!

You must walk…

Anyway, the first lesson I learned how to steer and walk around without falling off. The second through six lessons were walking and trotting (and dare I say bouncing), learning to use my legs to steer, holding the reigns properly in my hands, head up, stomach in (?!?) all without falling off. I gained some knowledge; a little bit of skill and I gained some momentum. Talk about pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone!

…before you canter

My final lesson I was able to get Teddy to canter. OH MY GOD! What an exhilarating and terrifying experience! What a sensation – almost like flying! It was so fun – and so scary! I was completely out of my comfort zone!

Let´s Talk Comfort Zone & Coaching

My coaching business is also gaining momentum and much of the time I’m outside of my comfort zone. I’ve finished most of my training, my website is up and running, I’ve retired from my corporate job and all the security that entails, I’ve received two certifications and I’ve been the guest on two podcasts (stay tuned – soon to be released).

Most importantly though, I’ve had the privilege to work with some amazing women who have trusted me to coach them through some considerable challenges. I wouldn’t change one moment of being outside of my comfort zone, not one, to experience what I have in the last few months.

So, let me ask, when was the last time you got out of your comfort zone?

My name is Nancy McKay and I coach women, most of them are over 50, who are going though a major transition in their lives and don’t know what the hell happened. They’re feeling lost and afraid because they don’t know what their future looks like. I help them figure out how to feel happy and at peace with their life.

One of best compliments I’ve received was “You helped me in seeing things from a different lens – I can’t believe I learned so much in one meeting!  I can’t wait to see what else I learn from you.” Helping women make a shift in their thinking and in their lives thrills me to pieces and drives everything I do.
